Wll Photo Explorer run on Windows 7?

Post by janjatul »

I have been using Photo Explorer on XP but it crashes on my Vista PC.
I am now considering upgrading to Windows 7 and wonder if Photo Explorer will run there :?:

If not what is my best alternative as a substitute for Photo Explorer :?:

Sorry to read the thread about the possible (sure) demise of PI. When I started my PI 12 I got an ad from Corel to upgrade to PI X3.

Do you consider this a good step to take :?:

I have been a long time user of PI since I first saw it many years ago in a small Ulead booth at Comdex demonstrated by a very knowing person.

PhotoExplorer is not one of the programs Corel's lists as being compatible with Win7. If you do upgrade, there certainly would be no harm in trying. If it does not work, just uninstall it.

Since it appears as if Corel is ending PhotoImpact, and since PI X3 is not much different than PI-12, I personally would not. However that's a decision only you can make. If you can still get the trial version of PI X3, download it, and see for yourself if it would be worth it to upgrade.

Backwards / forwards compatibility.
If an old program does not run on Vista, it does not run on windows 7.

photoExplorer on Windows 7

I am using PEX 8.6 on Vista Home Premium without any trouble, so presumably it should work on Win 7. I did not do anything special .. just installed it & off it went.

Thanks Sandgroper,
Maybe I have a problem with my installation of PEx on Vista.
I just unistalled and installed again.
The installer said it couldn¡¬t find PI 11, so I had to install that also (I am on PI 12). After that I could install PEx and it run beautifully.
I have now uninstalled PI 11 and PEx stillworks!

I must have gone around the request for PI 11 in the wrong way when I installed PI 12 and PEx on my new Vista PC last year.
Glad that this has been resolved. I am pretty sure everything will be ok then I install W7 in a few weeks time and I will keep you posted.

I am now on Windows 7 and I have installed PEx and it runs without problems.
The trick seems to be to install PhotoImpact 11 before PEx (and then PI 11 can be uninstalled).
