Date in video

Hi everybody!

I was wondering if anybody knows how to remove the date in a video? I am using Video Studio 11.

If anybody can tell me? Thanks a lot!

Welcome.

I assume that you mean that while filming (recording) you had "display date" set?

If so then I'm afraid it's there to stay. The only option you have is to 'mask' which would then result in a splash of say a solid colour over the date - wouldn't look nice.

I'm afraid Im working with a Sony Camera (DCR-DVD205) and there is no option to remove the date in the display (or at least I do not know the option). While recording I do not see the date in the screen, only when looking back at the camera or on the computer.

Thereshould be something in the manual to stop it from displaying this info, as it is part of meta data rather than the video, so I'd suggest a good read of that and you should find out how to display your video without it.

Otherwise, it as as jp said, putting something over it to cover it up.

I note that your camcorder records to DVD and perhaps they record differently from what I am accustomed to but I would have thought that you should have the option of recording with and without the date recorded.
I have checked the manual for your camera and it certainly appears that the date/time is AUTOMATICALLY recorded whether you want it or not (page 28 ). Very strange that you don't have control of this. Maybe another one of the expert users may have an answer.

Hi Heleen,
Your cam records MPEG2 files on to the dvd in the cam so the date info is handled a little differently than the way a tape cam would handle it.
Each individual file it records has, as part of its information the date and time. However this is not displayed by default. As jparnold says the manual shows you how to set the data/time up on P.25 but that only means that the information is being recorded, not displayed. If you go to page 82 you will see options ofr date/time display.

This problem has come up before on the forum with DVD cams and it is always because the cam has been set to DISPLAY the date/time info so it becomes part of the recording.

Just to be sure, does the date and time show on the screen when you have imported the files into your computer using VS and are viewing them in VS?

MY UNIT IS ALSO A SONY CAMERA. THERE IS NO DATE ON MY FILM, AND I HAVE EVEN TRIED MY ASSEMBLIES OF FILMS WITH ANOTHER SOFTWARE AND IT IS NOT OVER DATE, JUST WITH ULEAD VIDEOSTUDIO 11 +. THIS DID NOT WE HAVE TO THE PROBLEM BUT THE SOFTWARE ULEAD. IF YOU FIND THE PROBLEM WELL I WOULD KNOW THE SOLUTION ... THANKS

Welcome to the forums Nikollina,

Is your Sony camcorder, a Mini-DV, or Digital-8? DV (avi) has the date/time data. This does not have to be visible. Go to the Preferences dialog window (Press F6 on your keyboard, or File menu>Preferences). Towards the bottom of the first tab (General) there is an option Display DV timecode on Preview Window. Simply uncheck the box beside it.

The date/time is only displayed during preview in clip mode. It is not displayed in finished video/dvd.

Lastly typing in all CAPS is considered shouting in net etiquette. So please do not SHOUT..

Sorry for my English, I am French and I translated with google. my camcorder is sony handycam DCRDVD405, the movie on my computer it has no date just as i imported in ulead it inscribed on my movie a date and time. With other software cyberlink there was no date on it. I did not understand the problem yet I am not a novice. I have the same problem as heleen. thank you

The problem is probably not the camera. The newer DVD cameras embed the date/time stamp in the mpg file, not the video.

There is a bug in Video Studio 11. The most logical option, "Display DV time code on Preview Window" does not work. The stamp remains on, even in the completed video.

The stamp is definitely NOT embedded in the video.
Pinnacle Studio 10 does not pick up the stamp.
Windows Movie Maker 5 does not pick up the stamp.
Only ULead Video Studio 11 picks it up but doesn't give you a switch to turn it off.
This would be a great feature for editing videos if it worked right.

I would like to keep the time stamp in my original mpg files (for posterity) so I really don't want to turn it off in my camera just for a "work around".
The only option I have is to re-render the mpg files using Pinnacle so there won't be a time stamp on a source mpg while I make my video.

Would it really be that hard for Corel/ULead to fix the switch to turn it on and off.

No, it is not a bug or problem with VS, as I've yet to have a date/time stamp appear with any mpeg file, and it only is present in DV files, during Clip Mode Preview, if I have the option checked.
Display DV Timecode... does in fact work, for DV files only, as the name states.

However . . . . . here is a small DV mpg file:

It was shot using a Sony DCR-DVD405 last week. It was loaded onto my system directly from the camera. It has not been modified in any way.

If you view it using Windows Media Player you will notice that there is NO time stamp.

If you load it into Video Studio 11 you will see there IS a time stamp.

I can't get Video Studio 11 to turn it off. The Preferences option Display DV time code on preview window will not turn it off.

None of my other software shows it (Windows Movie Maker 5-Pinnacle Studio 10) nor do they give an option to see it.
Even older versions of Video Studio did not have a problem with it (I have had the camera for a year).

Video Studio: Version 11.0.0157.0 Plus
Dolby Digital Power Pack 1.0

System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
Pentium 4 with 2GB Ram
Display Adapter NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

The mpg file contains a DV time code.
If it is not a bug in Video Studio 11 then please . . . what is the problem?
Please don't tell me it is the camera, I like the DV time code attached to the mpg files. I just need to turn it on and off.
