[FIX] "Unable to finish GIF optimization process"

Post by Fixer »

Well, I noticed quite a few users had the same problem as I, but noone posted the solution. I than started experimenting a bit, and found it myself.

Error:

Image

1. I imported JPG images among the other frames.
2. I used a large amount of frames. [319 frames]

1. Open the Optimization Wizard or press F11

Image

2. Choose 'No'. Problem solved.

Image

Your image can still be made very small, as there are plenty of options on the next 2 pages, and don't forget 'Advanced'.

Image

And the result..

I hope it helps you. :)

I do hope that does the trick for the others. Most of those couldn't optimize even a small animation, which should not result in that error. Your fix does seem to work for animations that seem too big for GA 5 to swallow.

As for the others, I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the newer, multicore, hyperthreading processors. Perhaps disabling Hyperthreading in the BIOS would cure that? Not having a machine to try that on, I cannot confirm. Just a theory...

"Unable to finish GIF optimization process"

Post by powerwalk »

I¡¦ve been using the program on an older XP desktop, then migrated to an XP duel processor, with no problems. But suddenly last week it wouldn¡¦t ¡¥Save As,¡¦ or Optimize¡¦ simply returning the messages, ¡§Unable to Save,¡¨ and Unable to Optimize. I reinstalled it on the older computer which produced the identical problem.

This week the program is functioning normally again. Very strange, but thanks for your suggestion. If it happens again, I¡¦ll try it. Could be a Windows update causing mischief?

I had problems with various programs after installing Service Pack 3 and so now I have a dedicated XP System with Service Pack 2 and no internet on a triple boot computer.

Anyone got a problem with XP SP3 and MSP8 ?

I have 2 desktops and a laptop. All XP SP2. I¡¦ve hesitated to install SP3 due to all the problems it can cause. About four months ago, right after the monthly Patch Tuesday, the sound icon in my system tray disappeared. With tweaking it comes back again until I reboot. So I really think this topic is a windows caused problem.

Re: Anyone have a problem with SP3 etc, I wrote to Microsoft today venting about their planned policy to prohibit delivering critical updates effective next year if the computer doesn¡¦t have SP3 installed. Sony and Acer have advised me not to do an install, and Toshiba has nothing on their site in regard to this Service Pack. So what is the consumer to do.

Again, at the moment, Save As, and Gif Optimizer appear to be behaving......

I've had intermittent quirks such as the disappearing sound icon, on my desktop, which is currently running XP SP3. I'm fixing on doing a reformat. When I reinstall, I'm making my desktop a dedicated video editing machine, no internet, anti-virus, anti-spyware, and no SP3.

I have a laptop that I'll use for all my internet stuff..
