"Big" memory problem
Hello,
I have recorded something with an digital TV-card. Now - as usual - I wanted to create a dvd out of it.
The problem is that the veditor.exe process is using 1.6 GB RAM until the program crashes because of to low memory. Why is this application is using so much memory?
I noticed that this allways happen when I am using ac3 files (Dolby 5.1 recorded TV film or Dolby 2.0 recorded TV film). I am not shure but I think this only happens when I am using these multichannel audio files.
PLEASE help me.

I honestly don't know. I use MSP 7.3 and MF 3 Diskcreator for all my DVD creation. MSP 8 should be perfectly capable to generate the required mpeg files and author these to DVD.
One thing I have gathered from other posts here and on other forums, MSP 8 really takes advantage of installed RAM to a degree the older versions did not. From what I can gather from your details provided, your system has 1 GB of RAM installed, sytem usage is 1.6 GB. There is a fair amount of memory swapping involved here. do you have enough free disk space? Defragmented lately? Where does your swap file physically live? Same HDD as the system?

The swapfile is stored on a seperate partition - restricted to its file size. On the hard drive where MSP 8 is creating the mpeg file there is enaugh space to create the file. I just defragmented the partition.
But how could be the file size of the swap cause the error when Windows wants to enlarge the swapfile when to much memory is needed?

I'm not an expert on this but, AFAIK, there are a lot of settings in XP that have an effect on how the swapfile is used.
Mine is situated on a separate HDD to the system one and is the only file on that partition. The partition size is limited to 2.5 x RAM but I have set the swapfile use in the device manager to 2 x RAM. Max/min settings for the swapfile are identical. I also have a small, swapfile, 172MB, on my C drive. That's needed for the system to generate the small memory dump in case of a fatal error.
Have you set your swapfile in device manager? Do not confuse this with the Temp file for MSP.
