join/export settings

I need to make one clip from several avi files. I could join them first and then export or just select them all and export; I'll one mpeg file either way. Which method yields best quality? And when I export using the "fast export, dvd compliant" setting, will I preserve the original quality or should I use HQ setting instead? Best settings to use? Two pass on or off?

If you Join the Avi's together using the join feature and export then that will create 1 mpeg2 file.

If you select all of the avi clips and select export then each clip will be a separate mpeg2 file.
