Ulead Movie Factory 4.0-----Cutting?

Post by billz »

Hi

I have used Ulead products from time to time and know that they work quite
well. I few days ago I wanted to edit a DVD and decided to down load the version of Ulead Movie Factory 4.0, the TBYB edition. Most of the program
works as mentioned but I cannot make it Cut partitions of the DVD that I want to
edit out (TV Commercials). I should also say that it would not add chapters, unless
I create them. This does occur, it happens on a separate Add/Edit screen, but the tools for editing are not on that page. So the chapters added do not appear on the first screen for clips.

Since I know that the Ulead people make great programs that work quite effectively, I must conclude that I am doing something wrong. Can anyone help?
I really like the looks of the product but cannot seem to get over this hurdle.

If you purchase MF4 make sure to buy the retail boxed version.
I've seen it in a few stores (also online at ulead).

Also, read the posts on how to properly remove the trial version before
installation of the retail version.

Try Nero Recode, it will let you do almost anything with a DVD. Its faster than Ulead stuff and is more stable.

Tyamada,

Thanks for the sugggestion, will give it a look-see.

Tried going back into the User Manual and I found out one thing,
the start screen that they give goes not look like mine. As I mentioned,
to get the movie clips to come up I have to create them, but then that screen does not provide editing, my purpose for doing this in the first place.

thanks again,

To separate out the commercials move the cursor on the preview screen to start and end of the commercial and use the scissors at the bottom right of the preview screen to cut the clip at start and end of the commercial. Deleted the commecial section.

Sorry but I did not understand your reference to your problem with chapters.

Hi John

Thanks for the reply. That’s the problem the Scissors are not available.

There are no movie clips on the front or first screen. They appear only after I click add/edit chapter button, which the program does but on another screen, add/edit, but this screen does not provide for the tools used to edit, it only makes the chapters. These chapters do not or cannot be moved to the first screen, which has the tools available all but the scissors themselves that stay grayed out.

Your description does not tie up with my experience.

Are you saying that there are no clips in the timeline display on the Add Media screen. Or just that there is only one. When the cursor at the bottom of the preview screen is moved away from the start the scissors should become available.

When you say "it only makes the chapters", do you mean when you click on auto-add chapters.

The chapters do not need to be moved to the Add Media screen. Chapters are not separate entities, but are just marked sections of a title (clip).

If you Join clips together, the scissors stays "grayed out" and you cannot use it. You must "slice" the video clips before you join them.
