Video Loops

Post by Ormond Williams »

I want to create some (5 to 20 seconds) video loops taken from a minute or three of video so that it will loop seamlessly.

I'm looking for an easy way to determine the location of frames that are as close to identical as possible and are within 20 seconds of each other, somewhere within the video clip.

Is this possible with Ulead Video Studio 9? (I have this software) Or is there other software that I should try?

Ormond,

Since you're in control of making your loop, how "easy" will be up to you. And it will really depend on the material that you're using. Still, let's say at only 5 seconds of video that's 150 frames to compare. Finally, I don't know of and have't seen any software geared towards making loops. Even when making animated gifs, it's still up to the animator to make the animation smooth for looping.

Loops

Ron,
Thanks for your reply. There would be a lot more frames to compare than 150, because I would be starting with 60-180 seconds of video.

The video is of waves on beaches, waterfalls, flowers, leaves etc. All nature footage.

Do you know of any software that will show the individual frames of a section of video? If I can see the individual frames, I would be more likely to be able to do what I want.
Could this be done with animation software?

Ormond,

Yes. Adobe ImageReady CS2. It can open AVI and MPEG (not sure if that's -1 or -2).

Loops

Post by Ormond Williams »

Thanks for that Steve.

Your instructions are very helpful!

The main difficulty that I was having with making video loops was finding a starting frame and an ending frame that are very close to identical.

I have since purchased MSPro8 in which I can view and compare frames to help locate a start and end position. Its not easy, but can be done. This forum was influential in my decision to buy the software and I am grateful for the help I have received here! Thank you!

I have discovered that a most of the video clips that I had taken are faulty because I had the electronic image stabiliser turned on when on the tripod, so the clips are not as stable as they need to be. I now have to take more video with the stabiliser turned off.
