Yes several years ago. I used an older VHS-C camera, that had time-lapse capability. I created a Christmas animation for my mother. I used a Santa Claus statue, animating movement to and around the Christmas tree. I also used it to film a sunrise. However that's the only experience I have with time lapse. It was very time consuming, (it took me 6 hours to film) but fun.

Well, after a fashion
At the end of our last holiday we watched a sunset over Ayers Rock. Sat the camera on a tripod and let it run. In post-production I ran the clip at 10 times normal speed, and added alternating still images from throughout the trip in the lower third of the screen, to the accompaniment of John Williamson's "Raining on the Rock". Voila - an Ayers Rock sunset in 4.5 minutes!
