AFAIK, you can't do it during capture. However, it is easy in Edit mode, and you have one of two ways of doing it. First, with your video in the timeline, right-click the clip and you will get a floating menu, and you will see 'Split Audio' as one of the choices. If you select that, then you will see a new audio file against the top audio channel in the timeline view mode. That is your original audio, which you can then delete (and/or edit in a third party audio program and then reinsert) as you like. But that is full deletion. If you later want it back or part of it, that might be difficult if you have not saved it somewhere.

A perhaps safer way of not having the original audio sound, but retaining it in case you later need it, is simply to mute the clip. Again, in Edit mode, with the clip in the timeline, if you look up to the top left hand corner of screen, you will see a Tab labelled 'Video' and under that a little window set up like a digital clock (which tells you how long a clip is or allows you to vary the time of effects). Immediately below that is a small loudspeaker icon with another little window beside it with 100 in it. That is the audio control. To the immediate right of that is another speaker icon with a cross through it. Clicking on it will totally mute the original sound track. But if you later decide you want to hear part of it, then you have only to re-click the mute control, and then, if you read the manual, you can vary the volume in various parts of the clip using the rubber band that appears in the audio mode of the timeline view.

See my lengthy response on audio editing, using the rubber band, at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... ubber+band

That will show you how to vary the audio throughout a clip, including down to zero in parts.

Ken,
I've tried to mute button and the rubber band method, however, the sound keeps coming back on a particular clip that I don't want the audio on. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks.

Are you watching/listening in Clip or Project Mode? Changes will not be reflected in Clip Mode.

Hi

Well I have to disagree Jeff ---- I see the changes.

Using VS 9 with Dv-avi clip.
I cut the clip into three and mute the middle section.
The sound doesn¡¦t play in either Project or Clip playback mode for the middle clip.

I tried again using an Mpeg 2 Pal video clip, the muted section does not play in Clip or Project mode.

For what it's worth Trevor it is exactly the same in VS x2. Both clip and project mode are muted :!:

Hi John

The OP was using VS 9, but I will look into X2 with my new 20 quid version.

You are correct. My mistake.

It is when you are in Audio View that the changes are not reflected when in Clip Mode. Why? I don't know. :?
