Post by Eric VS9 »

Is There a downside to Dolby audio I have used VS8 with LPCM audio
and very little problems hundreds and hundreds of DVDs
Since using VS9 with Dolby256

There is no downside to AC3, it has advantages of being more compatable with stand alone DVD players, especially the older ones. The older DVD players had to be wired to the PCM output and selected to output PCM before you could get sound from a PCM/LPCM DVD. PCM was not output via optical connection.

Older decks may have compatability problems in PAL countries. There the "preferred" formats areMPEG or PCM. Older decks may have Dolby "support" but not do so well with it at medium to high bitrates.

In NTSC countries Dolby is the "preferred" format with PCM and MPEG being secondary formats.

Another problem could be that the deck needs its lens cleaned. You'd be suprised at how many people have no idea this is necessary, especially so in a household with a smoker.

Mebbe they think the laser can burn itself clean Image
