VS9 Capture Problems

Post by Diggy »

HI,

I'm having problems capturing DV from my JVC GR-DVL9000 with VS9. I've read numerous postings on this forum some of which relate to problems similar to mine but no matter what I do I still can't capture footage.

I have 2 x HDD's each with over 100Gb of space, I'm connecting the camera with an IEEE1394 cable, I have a GeForce FX 5200 graphics card with 256Mb and I have 512Mb RAM. I've got all the latest drivers and I've checked and re-checked the settings of my PC and the VS software in accordance with the advice given in the forum and in the manual - still no joy.

I can gain control of the camera but usually do not get a preview image. I repeatedly get an error message "Faild To Build Preview Graph". When I do get a preview image and attempt to capture footage the system either eventually hangs or no footage is captured. Using Quick Scan can sometimes apper to work but no frames are captured.

Can anyone help, this is driving me nuts.

Video Capture issue.

Hi Diggy,

What you've just written is like an exact issue of what is happening to me. Funnily enough you have the same DV camcorder as myself so if you get a reply I'll try the fix.

Do a search using my username and you'll find my description of a another issue relating to capturing.

Ulead tech support have provided me steps to following but no joy as yet. I'll have to reply and let them know.

Good luck.
Cheers

Hi,
How old is that DV camcorder?
Sounds like a firewire connection problem.
I have a JVC DV camcorder that the firewire port doesn't work that great.
Also for the firewire to work the camcorder must be running from the AC to DC power connector & not the battery.

To get that camcorder to work in VS I control the camcorder via it's own buttons. Start the tape rolling, get a preview screen in VS and hit record.
I don't control the camcorder from the computer.

Other newer JVC cams have no problem, only the older JVC one.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Peter, If I find a solution I'll certainly post it, but boy is it frustrating.

VS9 Capture Problems

Diggy - I am having the same problem that you describe. The only thing is that my digicam is a Panasonic PV-GS150. I can control the camera but I cannot capture in VS9

The JVC GR-DVL9000 shoots great video. Nice CCD in that unit.

Unfortunately the controlling of this camera seems to be a problem with many video programs. The problem isn't just in windows but also with Macintosh computers and dvd recorders connected via the firewire connection.

I believe the camcorder was introduced in 1997.
That camcorder also has a problem with dvd recorders connected via firewire and trying to control the camcorder. The only way is to get the video stream rolling and hit record on the recording unit.

I can get it to work in a few windows programs (no controlling of the cam).

If I take the DV tape out of the 9000 unit (or any tape recorded in the 9000 unit) and put it into my JVC GR70 camcorder connected via firewire then VS9 controls and captures using that JVC 70 unit camcorder no problem at all. Very reliable.

Hope this helps,

MD

Solved VS9 Capture Problem

Thanks to all of you offering your help.

maddrummer3301 - I did as you suggested and controled the camera manually using the cameras controls rather than VS9 to capture making sure that the footage was rolling first. This appears to have cured the capture problem.

So my suggestion to those of you experiencing similar problems would be to try the same. I'm pleased with the JVC which (as maddrummer3301 says was produced in 1997 and was the year I bought it) despite this apparent quirk and now I have some footage captured the VS9 software seems to be pretty good.

Thanks again maddrummer and to everyone else who offered assistance.
