ULEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can ANYONE get through to these people?
You call the number (long distance) and the first thing you hear is how they won't support x number of products.... nice....
Then, you go through the prompts - and what do you get? Hung up on.
I NEED to patch this version and the stupid patch tells me there's no MovieFactory installed on my system. I'm clearly looking at it - so there's some software glitch.
TECH SUPPORT? Do you exist? Going on two months now without a response.
Of course, I get the B.S. sales emails without issue.

I just had the same problem with trying to patch the software and there's no entry in the knowledge base that I can find. I registered here to see if I could find some info, maybe a registry entry that needs to be edited, but so far all I've found is you in the same boat. At least I'm not the only one. >_>
Edit: that didn't take long:

There's my problem right there. It isn't clear that "Suite Deluxe" is an SE version on the updates page.

What version of Movie Factory are you trying to patch.
Is it a full version or an SE version.
did you install it from a CD or as a result of an internet download.
What patch are you attempting to install.
What error message does it generate?
Please update your profile page with your system specifications.
Thank you

do you have an activated trial version? do you have an se or oem version or did the software come with something? is the program installed on any drive letter other than c? if you've answered yes to any of the previous questions continue reading. if you have a bundled software product it will not work at all. you can only download updates that specifically state they are for oem or se versions. if you downloaded a trial and purchased it, you will need to contact cs and request to download the full esd version. if you installed the software to any other drive other than c, you need to reinstall to the c drive. patches and updates look for a specific path on the c drive. problem solved.

Actually you can install registered (purchased) ESD or retail versions of any Ulead software on "D" or any bootable drive/partitian and the patches, bonus content, etc., will find their way to the correct directory. I've got VS9, MF4, PS4 and PI 11 installed on my "D" partitian and haven't had any problemsvideoking wrote:... if you installed the software to any other drive other than c, you need to reinstall to the c drive. patches and updates look for a specific path on the c drive.

Re: ULEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As has been mentioned, like it or not, Ulead offers tech-support only for registered (purchased) products. Apparently they would rather have you test the un-supported trial version and simply not buy the registered version if the trial doesn't work out. Not the best game plan in my opinion but it is what it is.dablan wrote:Can ANYONE get through to these people?
As far as registered versions go, I've never tried calling Customer Service but have always gotten a response after emailing tech-support. In most cases the wait has been between 24-48 hours but once (don't hold your breath) I heard back from someone within an hour. That said, I know there are cases where (for whatever reason) they have not responded. Keep trying and hopefully you'll eventually get a reply.
If you have a registered (purchased) version downloaded from a link provided by the Ulead store (or a retail CD version), one of the most common causes for problems is installing without FIRST removing the trial version. The procedure I'd recommend is:
Uninstall trial version
Delete trial directory (if it remains) in program files
Clear cache
Reboot
Install registered version
If you're using a trial version, most patches cannot be installed. If you have an SE/bundled OEM product, the available patches will state in their description if they are intended for these versions.
Hope that helps!

In addition to that, before reinstalling;
Delete all references to the program in question in
C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\ulead systems\
and
C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\application data\ulead systems\
These folders often survive an uninstall, and you never know when some setup in them will muck up the works.
