What is ideal hardware?

Post by jddealer »

I have a computer that only meets minimum requirements for DV Movie Factory. I am having lots of problems and am blaming my computer. If buying a new system what hardware should I get. Thanks in advance.

As fast a PC as you can afford - at least 3GHz (rendering will be quicker), at least 512MB RAM, as much disk as you can afford (those AVI, ISO files can quickly fill up your disk, video card is not important - the onboard video will do, a Firewire card or port (for transfer of AVI files, or conversion to MPEG files from your video camera or other analogue to video converter). That's about it!

...lots of problems...
Hmmm... An upgraded system will run faster. This may help improve analog capture quality. But otherwise, a better system won't automatically improve the quality of your videos or solve your problems. Digital editing is just "number crunching"... a better computer can do the work faster, but the end results will be the same.

Of course, lot's of disk space is nice, and a good video card & monitor will allow you to better see what you are doing to the video.

Plenty of hard disk space and a Firewire capture interface are the areas to look at to make the program well behaved. Improving over minimum specs in other areas will contribute to speed of processing.
