Making a Copy

Post by sportswizdan »

Just a quick question...I have made a few home DVD's that are unprotected of course. My questions is if I put my newly created DVD in a stand alone DVD recorder to make a lot more copies of my masterpiece for other family members...will I lose any quality or have a generation loss in the picture? Thanks in advance.

Possibly yes - depending on how you connect your DVD player to your DVD recorder - if you are going to use the red, yellow, white phonos then your player will decode to analogue and then your recorder will encode back to DVD - if you have a firewire connection between the two you may be able to copy using that without loss.

Much better way to copy DVDs is to use your PC and simply do a disc copy - that way you just digitally copy from one disc to another and should not lose any quality. Or if you know you are going to need copies in future then either create DVD folders or a disc image file (.iso) on your PC when you finish your editing then you can create as many DVDs as you want without possible loss of quality.
