No subtitles created after closing and reopening a project?

Post by Dethroner »

I experience a strange issue with DWS 2.232: I have a project with 3 video assets, each of the assets has subtitles. When previewing the DVD at DWS Finish tab the subtitles are shown correctly, but finalized DVD doesn't have the subtitles no matter if it's DVD folders, DVD image or burned disk. I have even tried to demux the VOB files and found out that they don't have subtitle stream at all.

There is a workaround: export the subtitles into text files, remove them from project, save the project and then import the subs back from text files. After that the subtitles are there on DVD and displayed properly. But next time the project is opened the oroblem is back: preview shows the subtitles, but they are not on finalized DVD.

The source files are compliant PAL MPEG-2 which are not reencoded by DWS. They are created from DV material with TMPGEnc encoder. The project is PAL too. No error messages are displayed, the subtites are just silently suppressed from the output.

This is not the first project where I have this problem, it's a luck that I have only one subtitle track per clip.

Try encoding the DV with the in-built encoder.

I also had yesterday the problem that the subtitles had not been rendered.

I had created a dvd - subtitles where there. Then I discovered, that I had missed one video in one playlist. So I added it and let dws2 rebuild the dvd (to a dvd folder). I made the obligatory patches (subtitle off command, menu to 16:9, order of menu buttons ...) and burned the dvd. During test I could select all subtilte tracks but didnt see any subtitle. I analysed the vob files - they didnt contain subtitles.
I analysed the backups I had made before batching - no subtitles. Since it was allread late night I defered the rebuild to today. I now let dws2 rebuild the project to a differend folder - still no subtitles. (Viewing the project they are there.) So I deleted all temporary files an restarted the build. Its still working.

Is there a patch available for this bug?
I am very dissapointed and allready considering to buy some other software. Is there a cross update option for adobe?

Deleting all intermediate files and reencoding brought the subtitles back. So probably a good idea to encode the video with MSP7 / MSP8 to mpeg instead with DWS2 since this way a complete rebuild will be much faster. I still wished Ulead would fix this bug.
