HammerHead wrote:I also have the same problem with my new Pioneer DVR-110D burner/player with the Ulead software package. But I guess the package was an OEM verssion.

Here is the response I got from Ulead.

According to your version, the Dolby Digital support is not included in this version. OEM/SE versions are built specifically according to the request of the OEM partner.

Here is a post I got from Poggy.
you have to purchase the full version of MovieFactory 4. upgrade wont work because OEM versions are not qualified for upgrade

So we not knowing bought a EOM vesion of Ulead software which does not have all the bells and whisles. I guess if you want every thing to work as expected one will have to buy the whole package, Ulead MovieFactory 4. I am thinking cutting my loses and doing it. Plus I saw the Pioneer DVD player on sale for $40 now, with no software.

I guess the MovieFactory 4 Disk Creator, $99.99 is the way to go.
I might have the MovieFactory 4 Standard Edition or something like it, 49.99, which is OK. But I think I might just buy the MovieFactory 4 Disk Creator, it seem more intergrated and I would like to try to learn video editing.

Good Luck

I purchased the Pioneer DVR-100 burner with Ulead software also. After several days of trying to get this software to work, I've concluded what others have here also and that is this version of Ulead MovieFactory 4 doesn't include the AC-3 (Dolby) converter. As a result, the DVD's that I bring over from my DVD-VR recorder might load okay, but Ulead is dropping the audio.

After trying several different programs to get this to work, I finally just registered my copy with Ulead and upgraded to the Movie Factory Disc Creator version. Ulead has a holiday special through tomorrow which saves you an additional 10% off the cost of upgrading. This version was honored as an upgrade, so you can get the Disc Creator version for under $60. After upgrading and applying the latest update (4.04), I am finally able to create a DVD with Dolby sound and the custom menu's with motion are very cool.

While I didn't want to spend more money on this, I decided that the Disc Creator version had enough going for it that I felt like I still got a deal.

I'm happily burning right now!

Good luck to all and thanks to the many people here who have taken the time to help so many others. I know I learned a lot just reading here as a guest.

Thanks for contacting pioneer. Did you know they were the firs to produce the DVD burner. It was in 1997 I think and it cast around $800. Plus, it was limited.

Any rate I do not know what they can do now. Perhaps upgrades to people who have the OEM version of Ulead DVD Player 2.0. Still for what I purchased it for it will do. Which is to take home movies and convert them to DVD. I just was just easy to put a DVD in and see it work, play a movie. I mean I though that is what it was suppose to do. I never thought about Dolby Digital issues. I will play DVDs one makes because they will not be Dolby Digital. and MovieFactory 4 OEM vesion might be OK. Althogh I tried to do the Update to MF4 and it did not work. That is because MF4 OEM version is not supported with update.

I am starting to get into this. I did not know about home movie editing and wanted something. I was going to go to Nero or Pennical but, at a sight I was reading they spoke highly of Ulead. I was looking for a DVD and saw the Pioneer with the Ulead software. I thought that is the one. I mean I didn not expect a lot of software just a player and a burning software, the MF4 was extra to me. I just liked the DVD burner/player. Now I see the DVD is on sale for $40. I might pick up another because I have another computer and would like to keep modern. I would later like to purchase the MF4 Disk Creater later, what the hey, that way it is supported and comes with all the bells and whisles. But first I think I am going to upgrade my Operating system to XP Home. I like the system, that means reloading all my software and data again. But I want to make the change.

Thanks

Just for your information I would check the Ulead website and compare the difference between the full version (disc creator) and the Standard version.
Both support Dolby Audio.
You may not need the extra features in the Disc Creator version.

Thanks Muddrummer,
I did look at the Ulead web site and checked out the software MovieFactory 4 for both Disk Creator and Standard Edition. I could see where Disk Creator provided the extra features like the DVD shrinking to adjust compression ratio. Plus it comes with DVD Player software, the one that plays Dolby Digital, and a few more bell and whistles.
This will be my main video software and I want to have a good base. I think I only got a OEM version which will not give me all I wand and is not upgradeable or supported. To me this is a small investment. I will be heading in that direction. But first I am going to upgrade my system to the Windows Home XP operating system. I was using Win 2000 and I like the features the XP gives. Like not having to log off the computer when another user wants to use it. My computer using Win 2000 has so many updates and patches it is just time to modernize it. Plus I am having hard time finding software that is Win 2000 compatible. I just prefer to use the newer Home XP.

Thanks

Here's an update from Pioneer Customer Support on my request as to how Pioneer and Ulead resolve the non-support of Dolby Digital Audio in the Ulead DVD Player Version 2 (what you get when you buy a Pioneer DVR-R100).
My request:
"Subject: Re: RE:Re: RE:|C00003|000000000 [#988797]

Michael, thank you for your reply. I would appreciate an update on how
this issue gets resolved between Ulead and Pioneer. I purchased the Pioneer DVR because it is a Pioneer product."

Pioneer's Reply:
"Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.
Pioneer is working with Ulead to solve the problem. Check back
periodically on the Pioneer website for an update.

Thank You,

Michael
Customer Service Representative"

Well, don't you think this is encouraging?

The following is a reply from Pioneer on the issue the Ulead DVD Player not playing Dolby Digital Audio:

"Thanks for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.

Based on your e-mail request, we feel that we can be of better assistance if you contact our Product Support line.

Please contact us at (800)872-4159 for further assistance. "

My issue with Pioneer has been resolved. They replaced the player with one that plays Dolby Digital Audio.
This is not an integrated solution of having the Ulead Player play a DVD movie, but if you consider the Desktop as the launch platform, it's an integrated solution.
