Cannot start PI 10 and PI11

Post by Polynomials »

I used to use PI10 and its fine for a certain period of time. Not so long before, I installed PI11 and it got the below error message every time when starting.
Image
Every time when it is loading "initializing u32lco.fio", it got the error message.
I've tried many times to reinstall the program with or without my Nothon AV running but the problem still present.

And the wierest thing is when I abandon to use PI11 and reinstall PI10 for my work. It got error message "PI 10 Must Shut Down" after loading into the working interface. Sometime it is successful and usually it cannot be successfully loaded.

How can I make either of the two version work?

Try using Repair option for PI 10 (start Control Panel->Add/Remove programs->PI10->Remove).

Thanks for your suggesstion, but it doesn't help
It crashed at nearly finishing loading stage, all the interfaces have been loaded, but it crashes at that very moment.

PI10 also crashes???

OK, lets try another way (NOTE, I haven't tested this).

Uninstall PI. Reboot. Run regedit. If PI is your only Ulead app, search and remove every reference to Ulead from registry; if not, remove every reference to PhotoImpact (I mean if a branch contains text Ulead or PhotoImpact, remove whole branch). BEFORE REMOVING BRANCH FROM REGISTRY, BACK IT UP WITH File>Export.
Now go to Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information. There are some directories there with funny names. Every directory should contain setup.ini file. Check ini files (fe. open in Notepad) and find the one refering to PI (this info should be at the very beginning of the file). If you find such file, delete WHOLE directory containing this file and ONLY THIS DIRECTORY.
Now reinstall PI, reboot.
Check if it is any better now.

Thanks for you solution.
I've found another solution temporarily work so I will try what you've said after finishing my urgent work with PI.
Here's how I work:
Because My friend have a workable version of PI10 in his computer, I copy all the file inside the installation directory (i.e. \Photoimpact 10) and cover all the files in my computer. It works then and PI10 loaded successfully. However, every time when I reboot my computer, I need to repeat what I've said before.

After my urgent work, I would try your method immediately, thankyou.

Hmm, strange.

Looks like PI11 changed something in registry (or elsewhere) what makes PI10 damage its own files

I had the identical problem. I had to delete all of the associated folders and registry entries for PI. I was then able to reinstall the program and it ran fine. Until I told it were to look for plug ins. The next time I started the program it did it again. This time I just deleted several of the latest plug-ins that I had installed. PI then started fine again. Turns out one of the plug-ins was either corrupt or incompatable.

Thankyou, but after I followed you method, I still can't get PI10 start normally.
Maybe I can report one more thing about my PI10. I can't start it as usually from my local HDD. However, as I metioned, I have "bootable version" of PI10 files stored on my portable harddisk from my friend. When I plug in the USB HDD, start from files on my portable HDD, PI10 can start normally. Very Strange.
