Failed to open DVD. Report ID: 0x800408ff(2303)
I am new to MovieMaker v4.04. I am not able to import a DVD+R from disk. I am getting a dialog that reads "Failed to open DVD. Report ID: 0x800408ff(2303)". I can not find any hints what this means. Does anyone know were to find a troubleshooting guide or better yet, a solution for this problem. Thanks.

According to Microsoft's Website, 2303 error code is Fail to get volume info. So there could be a problem with reading the DVD.
Is this a commercial DVD, or one that has been burned?
Have you tried other DVDs to see if it might be a bad DVD?
Regards..

Errors in Version 4.04
A few people have mentioned this but there is no sign yet of a patch from Ulead. There is clearly a problem importing DVDs with the latest version. The same disc was imported easily with 4.03 but got an error code with 4.04. I hope the boys at Ulead tech support are reading this forum (probably not regularly enough though).

I think you have missed the point
As I said in my previous post, the SAME DVD was imported correctly by version 4.03 but now 4.04 only produces the error code as quoted in the initial post. There have been several people who have experienced the same. Most, like me, have gone back to the previous version. I hope that makes it clearer for you.

Hopefully this will fix your problem. I used to get errors or my computer would lock up when trying to import DVD.

My discs were all DVD+R so the problem may lie there. The simplest solution therefore may be not to use that type of disc or go back to version 4.03 (which works for me) and wait till they fix whatever is bugging 4.04. (Incidentally whatever they did has ensured that I can't import DVD+Rs in VideoStudio9 either - though I could before and still can on another PC which doesn't have 4.04 installed.)

Failure to read DVD+RW discs
I experienced exactly the same problem as being reported here -
in my case I have regularly imported video from DVD+RW discs
recorded on a Lite-On LVW-5002 DVD recorder. On updating to
version 4.04 this stopped working with error code 0x800408ff.
The solution suggested in an earlier post - replacing
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD\LXDVDParser.dll
with the file from a previous version fixes the problem for me.
This seems to indicate that the parsing routines are either too
intolerant of the formats used on my DVD recorder, or are
'broken'.
