Use AVICodec to see what audio/video CODECs are installed in your system. As I know some A/V CODECs will make Ulead products to be unstable or get crashed.

Some of them are:

* 3ivX [version D4 4.5.1] [Encoding] (conflict with Ulead GIF Animator 5 and some other Ulead products)

* MPEG-2 decoder [Elecard demultiplexor / Ligos decoder] (conflict with Windows Media Player 9)

* .OGM.dll (conflict with Media Player)

* Morgan Multinedia Stream Switcher (conflict with Media Player)

And I have found that some MSN Messanger plug-in might also have the issue, it's "MSN Shell". Remove the plug-in will solve the problem.

Also please check http://www.ulead.com/tech/winxp_sp2.htm#3 for WinXP SP2 issue.

Hope this helps.

Well I used gif animator in the past and everytime I do a reinstall on my computer gif animator crashes when opening when displaying loading video io or something like that.I found out in the past how to fix it. Open the run box iun the start menu
type in the following. (you may want to copy and paste in there.
regsvr32 /U 3ivxDSEncoder.ax
Then press enter. It will give you a message saying something like successfully regestered. Then run gif animator. It should load fine. Also note I am using windows xp professional with service pack 2. Unlike the fix above you do have the ability to use video stuff like import video. I believe it posted here before I can not find it. I wish that put that in the faq as it does fix the ploblem.

Having the same problem ... here's what AVICodec shows:

I don't seem to have any of the listed codecs installed.

Oddly enough, about 1 time in 10, GIF Animator will start up and run.

Note that I started having the problem recently - could a Windows Update have been responsible?

its a problem with gif animator being incompatible with the latest 3ivx codec which causes it to crash find the 3ivx.dll in your system32 folder and rename it to 3ivx.dll.bak and GA should run again

3ivxDSEncoder.ax might also cause this but mainly it will slow down the start up but it can be disabled by renaming it also

if you need these codecs you can just restore them again

The easiest fix is to remove the "vio" folder from the GA 5 program folder. Just move it somewhere else.

The downside is you can't open or add any video files with GA 5.

Solution for GIF Animator Crashing

Post by merle »

I just purchased PhotoImpact 11 with GIF Animator included but GIF Animator kept crashing as soon as it got to the video files. I tried everything, repair, reinstalling PhotoImpact 11 & Sonic MyDVD. But nothing seemed to work. Thought it might be the sonicmpgvout.004 file but what it was is the 5 UVI files in GIF Animator were out of date. TO FIX THIS PROBLEM: Move all 5 UVI Files:
  • uvavi.vio, uvflc.vio, uvmpeg1.vio, uvqt.vio,vio.hlp. into a new folder on your desktop. Go to Photo Explorer 8.6 and locate the VIO files, there will be 7 of them, and copy them into the GIF Animator VIO file that you just emptied. THAT'S IT!!! Now start up GIF Animator and NO PROBLEM!!! You can delete the Desktop folder that you created for the outdated VIO files if you want, no sense in keeping them.

vio files

Post by Marc Twain »

I moved the vio files to the desktop, and gif animator runs perfect... but
this can't be the real solution to this problem!

I find that once you bought software and you get troubles with it, the software companies clientservice is terrible!!!
I had trouble with Photoshop, Coreldraw, Gif animator, Photopaint, Intervideo Win DVD, Adobe Audition, Norton and even with expensive Creative soundcards!....
Not one of the soft- or hardware companies answered my questions or helped to solve the problem(s)!
