Trial Verion Install Problems
I downloaded the trial version of VS9 and it bombed out here is the error.
"Setup need the next disk, Please insert Disk 1 that contains the file layout bin,"
I would like to purchase the software if I can see if I like it, but at this pace I can see I might have to look else where unless I get this working.

I've seen this sort of error before with other software.
I take it you are trying to install the program from the hard drive.
Past experience often shows (though not always) that the software is looking for the files it requires from your CD/DVD Drive.
Do you have a spare Read-Write Disk you could copy the files to and try setting up from there.
(I suggest a Read-write to save losing a CDR/DVDR)

I did like you ask and still has the same problem.

Re: Trial Verion Install Problems
I'm considering upgrading my VS from V6 to V9 and wanted to checkout the trial version first as well, but had the same problem. I don't know if it had any impact on the issue, but I also just uninstalled the old trial version 7 code which I'd tried out a ways back. I will try the information provided in http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=5992 as it sounds promising. Unfortunately, my only internet access is here at work while my computer is at home, so it'll have to wait until this evening before I can try out the info there.rancher wrote:I downloaded the trial version of VS9 and it bombed out here is the error.

Re: Trial Verion Install Problems
Well, I had no luck. I removed what I felt comfortable removing (I understand Unix systems far more than PCs) but was still unable to get any further. I didn't want to remove any ULead files related to my currently working version 6.0; I didn't find any of the primarily suspect files/folders (e.g. the ones named {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE}, which are called out in the error message I get during attempts to install).David Mears wrote: I'm considering upgrading my VS from V6 to V9 and wanted to checkout the trial version first as well, but had the same problem. I'd really like to test Version 9.0 before I buy it, but I'd also like to take advantage of the Holiday deals on it before they expire early January. So I'd appreciate any and all help on getting the trial version to install. I previously (a year or so ago) managed to install a trial copy of 7.0 (which I recently removed again), and I still have the 5SE copy that came with my computer before I bought and installed 6.0, so I assume it should be possible to install new versions without having to remove old versions.
In general I'm happy with version 6.0 (the functionality and UI meet my needs) but being in the software business myself I know the importance of not getting too far behind the latest versions. There is one set of problems I have with 6.0 that I'm really hoping newer versions have fixed -- I occasionaly have problems with the audio in edited output, sometimes just having loud screechy pops but sometimes getting out of synch with the video by as much as a second. I'd really like to have that problem fixed!

Re: Trial Verion Install Problems
Tried one more thing -- I removed everything from the Temp dirs as directed by the above URL, and for the "Common Files/Ulead Systems" I renamed the directory (instead of removing it) so it wouldn't exist during the install but I wouldn't lose all the files in it for V6. Still got the same error about not finding layout.bin anywhere. Sigh I've renamed the one dir back again so at least I've still got V6 working.David Mears wrote: I will try the information provided in http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=5992 as it sounds promising.
