I have a Miglia Director's Cut capture device to transfer my VHS tapes onto DVD.
This is recognised in WinXP Device Manager as a "Philips DV converter or camcorder" but when I open Video Stidio 9 the devcie isn't recognised in the "capture" window at all. All I get is "unknown".
Is there any way of getting Video Studio to recognise this device or ask it to search for capture devices to see if it can find my Miglia box?
TIA. John.

Close video studio and turn OFF your Miglia Device.
Re-start Video Studio. After it has opened go to the Capture tab.
Now turn ON your Miglia - does a pop up now appear to the effect a new device has been detected and asking if you wish to use it?
If this fails to work, try the "Change Capture Device" options and see if any of them recognise your Miglia.
If this still fails then
1. Did you get any software with the device for capturing, if so does that software work. You could then capture with it to your hard drive and use VideoStudio to edit.
2. If you did not get any capture software, does the Windows Movie maker that forms part of Windows XP allow you to capture?

Thanks sjj1805 for taking the trouble to reply and offer some suggestions.
I've now been wrestling with this for the best part of 2 days. No matter what order I open VS9 or switch the Miglia on it just wasn't recognised. I went back to v8 and it was the same story sadly.
So I tried Windows Movie Maler as you suggested. It recognised the device but wouldn't import anything. I got error messages saying that "the device has changed. Start the wizard again".
So I took the Miglia round to a friend who (unfortunately for him) uses P******e software. We treid the device wit hthe new v10 and it was recognised fine - but again wouldn't import anything at all. Same with the more stable v9 of the same program.
So I'm going to talk to Miglia's helpline when it re-opens in the New Year.
Thanks again. John.
