MP3 Codec

Post by Ken Y »

Whenever I insert a MP3 file into the time line, my program freezes. I noticed that under my Codec info I only had Dolby digit and MPEG2. Do i need to download an MP3 codec and where from ??

Please Help

Thanks for the info

I downloaded "Acoustica MP3 To Wave Converter Plus" and am using this to do that very thing. The strange thing is that I recently upgraded from Ulead Video Studio 7 to 9. When I was using 7 i didn't encounter the same problem, in that I could use MP3 files with out any problems ??

Where did you get your MP3s from in the first place? From someone else, or did you rip them yourself (which I am assuming you did)? If so, then you obviously have a codec already on your computer.

Now a problem which appears to be VS9 specific (though may have also happened in VS8... I can't quite recall: it was a good Christmas Eve!!!), is that some people have trouble with certain flavours of MP3, and one consistent offender appears to be LameMP3 (which is contained in a number of programs including IIRC Nero.) But you have already been given the solution -- convert to WAV before using in VS.

Personally, I use MP3 PRO audio ripped with MusicMatch Jukebox and have never had problems. However, I now tend to convert even these to .WAV since I usually have to edit them either to get rid of the 3 or 4 seconds of silence at the beginning or end of a music clip, or else to split them into smaller pieces... I happen to use the Wave Editor which comes as part of Nero, so that is how I know about it using LameMP3. (In fact, when it offered to re-save my original rips in MP3 format, I took no notice originally that it said it would use LameMP3, and accepted, only to find that my rips would not then play in anything except the Nero media player.)
