Locked Out of my program!!

Post by evmiller »

Well, I paid $99.99 to upgrade from the trial of Ulead Visual Studio 9 earlier in the year and now I seem to be locked out of my program. After re-installing the program and attempting to re-enter my purchase reference and serial number I get "Transaction Status: Failed, Reason: The maxiumum number of computer changes has been reached". If this is saying what I think it's saying, then you have to joking!! I just reinstalled my OS after creating a HDD partition so I can dual-boot with another OS. I've only reinstalled this software maybe 3 times MAX! And I've installed the program on the same computer each and every time. So Am I completely locked out of my program now?

I've never seen that with the ESD of VS9 and I've installed it on several bootups for betaing plugins etc. Sure you didn't install something that is limited in how many times you can install it like the MPeg4 plugin?

It's a holiday weekend, but I'll see who I can get in touch with at Ulead & have 'em review this thread.

Sit tight :)

I'll add to Terry's comment, I've had to reinstall VS9 (ESD) numerous times, and never seen that.

I think he has an activated "Trial Version' which is different then the ESD or
the retail package.

It sounds like a copy protection feature applied to the trial version that
can be activted to full version..

Exactely! That's what I have, a trial version that you enter in a purchased key that unlocks the program. After a few installs, you get ripped off I guess. The copy protection is by softwrap. I'm still locked out. No answer from my emails either. I feel once you pay for a key, this softwrap protection should be eliminated. Or better yet, after a key is paid for you get a download link for an ISO image of the retail CD and I can enter my purchased key into that one. Im so upset over this right now I can hardly type.

I'm not familiar with how the activation process works but many programs
use the internet connection to access a server that checks your program
information and registration code to validate the process and activate the
program.

Maybe disconnecting the internet connection will tell you something.
Try and activate the program with the internet connection down.
Worth a try.

It's the holidays and I'm sure ulead will help you out when they are
back to work.

Ok, I just tried that. You can activate it without a being connected to the internet. So far Ulead hasn't responded to my email.

Hi,

Could you please repost that to help others that may have this problem?

You can or can't activate the program?
Did that work? Yes/No.

Sorry, I made a typo. I still CANT activate the trial with a purchased license key. softwrap support finally emailed me and said they've enabled my account for re-installations but I still get the same message when I try to activate it.

//
Transaction Status: Failed

Reason: the maximum number of computer changes
has been reached

Thank you for using softwrap.

//

I've emailed them back saying my software is still un-activated and to re-check my account and so far no word back from them yet.

This happened to me once before with trial version of Microsoft Money that I had to activate with a purchased license key everytime I reinstalled and eventually got locked out of that program too after the 5th re-install. I was at least able to call and get it reset fairly quickly though.
