I didn't have any problems installing the Hot Fix, I think that Ulead mislabled the patchex. The one for Media Studio 8 without any plugins is MSP8_ESD_HF_3in1_8.00.0033.exe and the file for the MPEG4/3in one is labeled MSP8_ESD_PowerPack_E_Patch_E.exe.

I downloaded both and installed the MSP8_ESD_HF_3in1_8.00.0033.exe which did fine.
The other Patch wouldn't install because I don't have MPEG4 or the 3GP Plugin.

My Original MSP8 was downloaded from the web and had a activation code that had to be activated while the computer was on the internet.

I eventually got from ULEAD Support the version that only required the serial number, which is the version I have installed, this version took the update fine.

Hope this helps.

The patch I downloaded is named
MSP8_ESD_HF_3in1_8.00.0033.exe

I had the downloaded version and later I downloaded the replacement one.
Not sure which of the two I am running I suspect it was the original an the second is just on a disk for future use.

I'm also having trouble installing the Hot Fix and the MPEG4 iPod Update. I am running the full version of MSP8 with the MPEG4 plugin already installed. I get different error messages with the two different patches.

With the Hot Fix (MSP8_ESD_HF_3in1_8.00.0033.exe) I get the following message: "Setup cannot find Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0 installed on your system." NOTE: MSP8 is even installed in the default directory.

With the MSP8 MPEG4 iPOD Udate Pack (MSP8_ESD_PowerPack_E_Patch.exe) I get this message: "Setup cannot find Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0 MPEG4/3GP installed on your system." NOTE: I DO have the MPEG4 plugin installed, but NOT the 3GP. The download page has a separate patch for the 3GP and only states that for this patch to work, you must have MSP8 and the MPEG 4 plugin which I do have.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

The link at the top of the page takes you to the download but it is not there if you go to the Ulead website. Maybe they realized there was a problem! Would of been nice if they responded to the email I sent to tech support!!!!!!!!

I just tried to install the patch to a version of MSP8 that had to be activated over the internet, couldn't find MSP8 installed on my computer. I uninstalled that version and reinstalled a version I got from Ulead that was activated by a serial number. After that I installed the patch and it found and patched MSP8 fine.

For those of you that didn't get the version of MSP8 that installed with a serial number you should e-mail Ulead support to get that version.

OK if thats the case two questions

1. Do I need the fix.
2. If the answer is yes. Will overwriting my current installation with the new one cause me to lose all of my current customised settings, screen layouts etc.

Yes OK I have them saved, but I am sure plenty of others will want to know the answer to this one.

You will have to uninstall MSP8 and reinstall the other version, because the newer version will not let you over write the older version. I suggest you save the settings to a new folder and copy them back to the new installation.

I'm not sure if you need the current patch but eventually you will need to install the newer version of MSP8, why not do it and get it over with.

I didn't have any problems with the un'install and reinstall, everything seems to work fine.

Yes I think I will have to go ahead with a re-install.
For the benefit of anyone else having to do this, please have a re-read of Terry Stetlers posting regarding backing up custom settings first.
I have a feeling his suggestions are going to come in very handy.

Held my breath, went for it and installed the Serial Number Version.
Everything went OK though had to relink a few clips after starting MSP up the first time.

My Hollywood FX, Burger Transitions, Boris FX, Extra Smartsound libraries were intact
Version is Media Studio Pro 8.00.0033

The Update Patch flew straight in.
