I use Camtasia Studio 3 to convert a PowerPoint slides to avi mpeg file. It works correctly (no left and right sides cut) when playing back on computer. Then use DVD MovieFactory v4 to burn a DVD disk. Upon completion, I play it on DVD player with a TV. The left side and right side are cut so it looks ugly. Is there any way to avoid cutting left and right sides even to make the screen slightly smaller. Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray

I tried 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 & 1280 x768 to capture with Camtasia Studio and 640 x 480 & 1024 x 768 to create avi file. There was no marked difference. If play it back on computer, it is fine. It seems the software DVD software to adjust the screen size automatically to complete fit for the image size. Any idea?

4. AVI Video
5. next
5. Video Compression - Microsoft Video 1
6. Next
7. Standard Video Size - select 720x576 (PAL) or 720 x 480 NTSC
8. press next 3 times
9 Give it a name and specify where you wish to save it.

Dear SJJ,
Thanks for your advice and I followed your advice to burn a new DVD disk. It seems the quality is acceptable now but both left and right sides were still missing. Such missing deteriates the whole presentation. I prefer to have black bar on both sides rather than cutting part of left and right side. Is there any way to zoom out a bit to give an entire screen?
Thanks,
Ray

I don't use DVDMF4 for editing so can only advise how to tackle this with Video Studio 9 (You can also use Media studio 8 but this one is easiest for this task)
If you don't have a copy, then now is a good time to download the 30 day trial version off the ulead website.
There are now two methods available, the first method has two variations.
Method 1. Place your clip on the overlay track.
You can now resize it so that it fits the screen. You could either distort it which would make people in the video appear to put on a few pounds in weight or you could keep the aspect ratio by clipping off the top and bottom edges.
Method 2.
Place your video on the video track and apply the crop filter.
You can then keep the screen as it is now, but replace the two sides with a colour of your choosing.
The choice would depend upon the content of the video, whichever looks best.
As an after thought take a look at my Tutorial dealing with the conversion of super 8 films. The method I used to display these films may be of interest.
