i've tried 2 times so far to burn a dvd.
the first time the computer completely froze. The power saver on the monitor kicked in so the monitor was off and nothing would respond so if there was some sort of error message on the screen before it locked up, i couldnt see it.
I tried doing it a 2nd time, and it said it was burning the disc ... and it said that for about 2-3 hours before i got tired of it and killed it. There was a disc in the drive. It seemed to have totally screwed up my PC. i couldnt start any other programs even after i killed movie factory. I had to reboot the pc.
I'm going to try it one more time except this time i'll ask it to just write an iso file for me.
movie factory keeps failing
Good idea. If you have other burning software with "packet writing" features, it can conflict with Ulead's burner....this time i'll ask it to just write an iso file
If you do have other burning software, you can make an ISO file or "burn" the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders onto your hard drive, and then use your regular burning software to copy to a DVD.

oddly though when i tried using MF to burn the iso image, it worked, sorta. It burned the image and the disc seemed to work. But MF said there was an error in the burning process.
All in all MF seems like it would be a nice program, but my experience with it has been too buggy. I couldnt even install the newest update for it since the update said MF isnt installed.

DVD production is not so simple as just to get a DVDRW & fit to your PC & start . You got to understand certain principles. Your video file must not be fragmented - must reside in a single free space on your HDD. When you do rendering in MF, you need twice the size of your video on the MF temporary folder. When these conditions are met, you will not have any problem in the rendering & burning.
I am telling you from experience. I am in the video editing business. I burned a 100 DVD a week. I have 4 HDD (120GB - 200Gb). 5 DVDRW - 4 internal & 1 external on my system. My HDD are on SATA & RAID.

well MF is claiming to make it simple. The program shouldn't fail for the reasons you gave. If nothing else, it should fail gracefully telling me whats wrong. Not lock up the PC.
If MF really wants to make a good product, then they should at least have it check to see if the file is too fragmented before it does anything.
Although i dont really see why a fragmented file would cause this. I've burned other things to dvd before, many of which filled up the entire dvd and there were no problems. I had even set the drive speed to its lowest setting since i was told the slower burn speed improves the readablity in set top dvd players. With buffering and the slower burn speed, the HD should have no problems keeping up with the demands of the dvd burner. And since my other burner program burned the iso file without a problem, i dont understand why MF would blow up on it.
MF looks like a nice program ... but i just think it has 1 too many bugs for me to spend $65 on it. If tech support would respond to trial users and help me resolve them, then yeah i might consider buying it. But like i said, i cant even get the latest update patch to install.

that seems kinda odd that you cant install patches to the trial version. Wouldnt they want you to try the least buggy version of their software?
I'll try removing the quickdrop ...not sure if i installed the data-add i'll have to check. Although i dont think i have anything else running thats involved with quick burning files to disc, so i dont think the quickdrop would cause a problem. Doesnt hurt to check though
