I'm working on a large HDV project. I'm using a nested timeline and multiple files in the media bin. After several edit sessions with the project, I will open the project and select one of the files in the media bin. All the thumbnails in that file have turned white. If I right click on one of the thumbnails and select properties, nothing happens. I am also unable to edit it. It is as if the thumbnails are still there, but they are no longer linked to any clips. The clips they point to haven't changed. I have multiple versions of the project. The same thumbnails will be fine in one version and blank in another.
Does anyone have ideas what could be happening and how I can prevent it?
Thanks!
Joe

Please update your profile with your system specifications.
My initial thoughts are that you are working on a large HDV project which as you say has a nested timeline and several clips which may point to a low memory problem - ie run out of RAM.
We really need to know your system specifications to answer this one.
We would also need to know something about the clips themselves
bitrates, sizes etc etc.

Thanks.
I updated my profile. I have 1 GB of memory and 500 GB of hard drive space. The HD video is from a Sony HC1. The bit rate is 25Mbps. The original video clips total about 2 hours. I'm editing them down to less than 1 hour. I just launched Windows Task Manager to see how much free physical memory I have available. I'm rendering a portion of my project right now. I also have Outlook open and Internet Explorer. According to Task Manager, with all that running available memory is hovering around 80 Mb. I closed Outlook and that went up to about 100 Mb.
The reason I'm trying to do this as one big project rather than rendering pieces of the project then combining them is that since the HD video is MPEG compressed, my understanding is that each time it is re-rendered will degrade the image. Let me know if I have that wrong.
Thanks again & let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Just in case it is down to memory and CPU usage try creating a new hardware profile
specifically for video work.
Take a look at this post first to see what I am refering to
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=9611
and you will see how I cut down the number of running processes on my computer from
57 to 42. I also cut down the PF usage from 223 to 116 (I have even chopped a bit more off now and last night had it reading 111)
Take a look at this link to help decide which "services" to disable.

At best it will solve your problem, at worst you will be rendering your clips faster than before.
