VS 8 crashes when adding chapters to DVD creator

Post by pvolpe »

HELP!!

I am wondering if anyone has any fixes for this problem.
After I have created video and want to share the video, I chose create DVD and then I enter the add chapters section. After I select 4 chapters manually, the program crashes.

I have tried with a video in MPG already and with video still in native AVI state.

I have 2 hard drives. 1 has 20GB free out of 200GB, the other has 20GB free out of 60GB. I have 1 GB ram running pentium 4 2.5 Ghz.
I have never been able to do chapters with VS9, but was able with VS8

HELP!!!

Hi pvolpe,

Is it the same 4 chapters, and same video clip? Have you tried with other video clips? Maybe try just 3 chapters to see if there might be a problem with the video.

Also does VS9 crash when you try to burn a disk, without chapters? To troubleshoot this I recommend using a DVD +-RW disk. That way you don't waste a disc if it chooses to burn it.

Do you have any other packet writing programs installed?
Are you running any programs/utilities that run in the background?

These may not be answers to you're problem, but may eliminate some possiblites, thus narrowing it down...

Thanks for reply.

I am using VS 8 not VS9 but I still have VS7 on my system.
As we speak I am trying to do the same in VS7. It IS working!!
With the same MPG file, I have added 8 chapters and the DVD is now burning. The funny thing is though that in VS 7, the size seems to be smaller than VS8 even when I try to keep the Best quality at Variable rate 8200.

With VS 8, it would show on the space line that 4.7GB will be used, in VS 7 it is showing only 4GB. I'm worried that this will affect quality.
I still shouldn't have to use VS 7 to do a DVD on a MPG file done in VS8.

I may have some things running in the background but I have tried eliminating a few without success such as the virus.

My next step was to see if there was anything I could change in any *.ini files in terms of buffers or maximum memory or hard disk space to see if that would have any impact. No success yet.

Any other suggestions?
