Can I edit mpgs with MovieFactory

Post by desertratr »

I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I am brand new at this. My question is, can I edit an mpg file I recorded using MovieFactory?

You can, but MPEGs can cause problems as they are not meant to be edited.* Download the trial program(s) to see if they work for you.

If your primary goal is editing, check out Video Studio. If your primary goal is making DVDs, you'll probably want Movie Factory or DVD Workshop.

* Any editing or MPEGs other than simple cutting & splicing requires an extra decode / re-code cycle, which degrades the video quality. And, when I did it with Video Studio or Movie Factory, I got the dreaded "lip-sync" problem. I ended-up buying a special purpose MPEG editor called Womble MPEG video wizard. ($100).

I recorded a movie off of TV using my WinPVR. I would like to delete about 30 sec of stuff of of the begininng of the recording and also about a minute or so off of the tail end. Ideally I would also like to delete the commercials.

Since I am brand new at tihs I need advice as to whether it is possible and if so, which SW to use.

Thanks
