Trial Version Limitations

Post by BIGDAWG2005 »

What are the limitations in VideoStudio 9 trial vs full version? I cannot find any online documentation on Ulead's website regarding trial limitations.

The trial version doesn't support "Dolby" Audio. It supports "PCM & Mpeg Audio"

You cannot "Update" a trial version. You cannot apply program updates from the ulead website to a trial version.

Hope this helps,

That helps... Does it also support DTS audio?

No DTS... Last time I looked, DTS encoding software was $500. There is a press release that talks about DTS on "the new InterVideo-Ulead HD DVD Authoring Tool"... whatever that is!

Not all players can play DTS, so in order to make a compliant DVD, you have to include an LPCM or AC3 track too. (LPCM or MPEG in PAL contries.)

BTW- Video Studio only supports stereo AC3. Media Studio Pro is the only Ulead product that supports 5.1 channel surround.

Hi,

I am testing the trial version of VS9.

When I try to import a video from a DVD, the right window opens, the list of video files is displayed and I can play these files. But the "import" button remains unavailable.

Is it a limited feature of the trial version or should I search for an other problem ?

Cheers,

@jmm

Note : since I am using the french version, I am not sure of the exact translation of the menu items or the button names...

Have you clicked your mouse in the litte square boxes which appear to the left of each chapter shown in the 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR' screen? Until these have a red mark in them, 'Import' remain greyed-out.

Hi Ken,

Well, yesterday I just clicked the name of the chapters...

By clicking the boxes all work fine.

Thanks a lot.

So does the trial version allow un-watermarked, normal DV and MPEG-2 export for the 30-day period?

Can it display Timeline preview of either video track when doing A/B-roll editing?

Thanks! :)

Hi RWP,

Yes the trial version is fully functional. You can't apply any update patches to the trial versions, and there is no tech support for it, just this forum. Hummm, well I guess the only limitation would be no updates/patches.

As far as I am aware, the trial version does not use watermarking.

And I confess I have no idea what 'A/B roll editing' is, so cannot comment on that one!!! I wonder if others might have been in the same boat, and did not answer as a result, thus necessitating your 'Bump'!!! If it means, can you play back the contents of the main timeline (track A?) and the overlay track (track B?) separately, then I don't think you can. You can certainly play the main timeline title track back by itself as a clip when you select it and hit the play button or to edit it. But if you want to play what is in the overlay track, then it plays at the same time as the title track. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, since it allows you to see how it is sized etc or how the edits to it look in relation to the title track. And that is what I thought the value of 'roll editing' would be about, if I am correct in my surmise.

I believe A/B Roll editing is the term refered to when you take 2 sources of video, and mix them together, thus creating a multicam edit, That's the way I've always understood it to be, but again, I could be wrong. If that is the definition RWP is going by, it can be accomplished using the overlay track to lay your B-roll down, but you can't do many effects to transition to the B-roll.
