Fine tune selection?

Post by jkonecn »

Is it possible to adjust a selection by changing the properties of it's x/y location and height/width? I find it very difficult to accurately select what I want just by using the mouse.

If you are talking about PhotoImpact XL or above then you should see if the Smart Lasso option is enabled (Checked). Select the Lasso tool from the Toolbox toolbar. If you dont see it then there will be an arrow pointing diagonally up on the left hand side of your window. Below the arrow will be the Standard Selection Tool. There will be a tiny arrow to the right of the icon. Click on the arrow and you will get a drop down of more tools. Click your mouse on the Lasso. Once you have the Lasso tool selected look up along the Attribute toolbar. That's the toolbar 2 rows below the menu items (eg. File|Edit|Adjust|Photo|Effect|Selection etc.) Along the Attributes toolbar will be a small checkbox beside the words "Smart Lasso". Uncheck that box. It will be much easier to manipulate your selection(s). Additionally, if you look along the same bar but back at the front of the toolbar, that being on the left side, there are three icons, as square box with an arrow, a plus sign, and a minus sign. The square box allows you to initially select a portion of your graphic. The plus sign is used to extend the area of a selection, and the minus sign is used to subtract area from a selection. Hope this helps. Just a tid bit of advice.

It would be nice if ...

.... in subsequent posts it would be beneficial for everyone if you would include the program you are referring to, the version number and a little more detail of what you are having difficulty with, please. Thanks

Merry Christmas

I'm using PhotoImpact 10. I really don't see how the options you are talking about help in fine tuning the selection. Say I want to select a portion that starts at 36,47 (x,y) and is 434 x 643 pixels. How do I easily get that?
