Ads Dvd xpress has problems capturing some video cassetes
I have had dvd xpress for awhile now and captured some good stuff from this,But I have problems with certain tapes. While capturing the picture freezes up and I get some annoying crackle static noises from some tapes in the speakers.I have done tests and they are definately in certain spots on the tapes. These are copys from other tapes 2nd generations.I really want to capture all my tapes.

I think that if you have a bad source any capture device is going to have problems. There may be some work arounds though to accomplish your goal.
Here is a link to a forum geared torwards users of adstech capture devices including dvd xpress. Perhaps if you can't solve you situation here you might seek help there.

TBC could help...
Hi,
A TimeBase Corrector (TBC) has been know to resolve issues with old VHS tapes (gaps or dropouts etc...).
If you can put the TBC "between" the source video and the DVD Xpress, that should work.
Another approach -- if you have a digital camcorder that can record analog in, some of them have a TBC builtin when recording. This would mean you record to your digital camcorder, and then transfer the recording separately from the digital camcorder to your computer. If you go firewire from your camcorder to your computer (capturing dv .avi), you won't be making an "extra" generation. But this process takes twice as long because you have to record to your camcorder, and then transfer from camcorder to computer. The reason you have to record to camcorder first is the TBC might only come on iwhen the camcorder is actually taping. But maybe different camcorders work differently, and you can do a pass thru with the TBC in effect???

p.s. Merlin, that's a GREAT link to the ADS Forum. You can find alot of helpful and friendly people over there!
