Howdy All,
I've read through some forums and havn't really found an answer to this issue I have. Not sure if I'm missing something here or if I'm just a dummy and doing something wrong here, but I can't seem to get any playback on my DVD player using the mp3 discs I've created. I'm using Nero 6 and the procedure seems pretty simple. Put in DVD, click make MP3 disc, add tracks and voila, burn........but the problem is when trying to play back on my DVD player....."say's cannot read disc" The player is supposed to playback MP3 tracks as it's stamped right on the panel??? I'm guessing that it'll only playback MP3's if burned onto a CD and not a DVD... Seeings I'm not having much luck with Nero can I just do this in my VS9 or is there some better freeware to use for this application. I'd just like to get all my MP3's onto 1 DVD for chrismas so I don't have to be chaning discs all the time. It would be nice to have 6 or so hours of music without a change. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Max

Well.... I've never done this, but you can make a slide show DVD. I think a slide show DVD conforms to the video DVD standard, and will play on any DVD player (at least any DVD player that can play "burned" DVDs).
The still images require very little disc space, leaving plenty of room for audio... I'd guess over 6 hours of uncompressed LPCM audio, much more with AC3 audio.
Nero may be able to make a slide show DVD. Several Ulead programs can make slide show DVDs, including:
Picture Show
Movie Factory
DVD Workshop

Yeah, I've messed with the slideshow thing and I know that it converts any background music that I have inserted and plays perfectly on my DVD player so I don't know why a person shouldn't be able to do a "just Audio" DVD and put a whack of stuff on a DVD. You could even oversize and then Shrink a little with DVD shrink once you've created the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders. Now another angle is, can a person use the Dolby Digital option for the audio instead of LPCM
I don't know whether the origional audio has to be in that format or whether VS9 will convert from MP3 to Dolby Digital. Things I've never played with yet so I'm not sure. I'm thinking this would be a nice little feature for just doing some long term Audio discs. Funny there's no crowing about this type of feature at Ulead as there's programs out there doing the exact same thing that are charging upwards of $80 and I'm sure I can make this thing happen in VS9
If anyone has any insight on this, let'er fly

You can make a slide show without pics but you are better of using lpcm as the audio, because if i use ac3 for two hours it would be 6.3GB but LPCM LP two hours only uses 2.3 GB that was just a quick test using MP3 @ 192kpbs.Dvd shrink will not compress further as it only compresses video although if you use the reauthor option you can remove the menu. Hope this helps

The test i did i burnt direct from the timeline as there is no out of sinc issues. In the burn module you can change the mpeg settings to suit the length of your mp3s via the cog wheel in the bottom left corner LP Will fit 2.3GB for two hours @ 192kbps mp3.
