Adding one item (miniature) per page!

Post by Didouch »

Hello,

I'm a new member in your forum and have some questions approbiate of the menu for projects.

Is it possible to create only one menu with only one item "miniature" per page???

Actually, because the proposed menu is equiped with 2,3,4,... items "miniatures".
I would like to have the oppertunity to have on my front page only one item to click at; the seconde menu-page 3 items, the third menu-page 2 items, ect.

Is there anyone who can help me out???

Thank's in advance,

Didier

Adding one item (miniature) per page!

Hi Didier,
If I understand you correctly you would like to have varying numbers of thumbnails (miniatures) per menu page.

Unfortunately I have not found a way to do this at the main menu level. However, it is possible with sub-menus (chapters).

What I would suggest is customising the layout of the Main Menu in the setup menu to one that is ok for you. (Unfortunately I cannot find a layout in MF4 that has only one thumbnail. I understand it is possible to build this using other products, but not within MF4).

Then in the field "Currently Displayed Menu", select the name for a sub-menu. You can then customise the layout of this sub-menu only. Select which menu layout you require - 2, 3, 4, ..... 12, thumbnails per menu. You can repeat this for each sub-menu that you create under Add Chapters. Each layout is separate.

As MF4 only has two layers of menus you cannot create sub-sub-menus so you have to organise things within these 2 layers.

If you need more detail then let me know. BTW, what version of MF are you using?

Hope this helps.
Vorlon.

Movie Factory is intended for simple authoring and only has a two level menu structure. The template determines the maximum number of thumbnails on the screen. The number of clips (titles) in your timeline determines the number of thumbnails on the main menu and the number of chapter points in each clip (and the template) determines the number of thumbnails on the sub-menu screen(s).

Hope that helps.

Hello,

Thank you for your quick answer.

My aim was to be able to do this:

Menu 1
Titrate : Allemagne
Miniature 1 : Photographs
Miniature 2 : Movies

Menu 2
Titrate : Suisse
Miniature 1 : Photographs

Menu 3
Titrate : France
Miniature 1 : Photographs
Miniature 2 : Movies
Miniature 3 : Charts

Menu 4
Titrate : Belgium
Miniature 1 : Photographs
Miniature 2 : Movies

Menu 5
Titrate : Italie
Miniature 1 : Photographs

etc ...

Unfortunatly, I will try to make it differently.

Perhaps you know a better solution or another program which is able to do this???

Thank's in advance,

Didier

To do that you need DVD Workshop or a non-Ulead product.

Didouch,

How were you intending to get to the country menus?

If you would have a main menu with a thumbnail for each country and a sub menu for each country as in your list, then that is within the capablities of MovieFactory.

Each country's content would need to be joined together to become one item on the timeline. ie photographs in a slideshow joined to videos. Then chapter points set between videos and slideshow.

Hello,

I guess that your proposition will suit me.

After testing it, I'll let you know more.

The problem is that it is over priced for just simple authoring. The improvements that need to be made should be simple (deleting and adding thumbnails to the main menu should be a right-click function.) While I like Ulead better than the other products I have tested, my trial is about to run out, and I don't think I'm going to buy the product. Some of the simplest options are not available.

Also, you have said that other Ulead products allow the creation of custom templates, but the one I thought you suggested was $100US. That's not an option, particularly for a "simple" authoring program.

Does anyone from Ulead ever show up in these forums to try to answer their customers' or potential customers' questions?

It is not really that bad. You have quite a bit of flexibility. You don't need the facility to add add or delete thumbnails. The number of thumbnails on the main menu is determined by the number of video clips and the number on chapter menus is determinded by the number of chapter points.

Not saying it is perfect and I agree that more editing facilities would be nice, but it is not intended to be a full blown editing package.

Hello,

I tested it, but still have some problems. In the other hand, I'm very pleased, because it corresponds to my wish.

1. I know how to realize a slideshow. I know how to join videos and create chapters, but I don't know how to join a slideshow and videos... What shall I do?

2. During my test with the videos, MF4 do create chapters. But, during the reading, MF4 doesn't go back to the menu after each chapter (the icon: go back to menu is selected). It's going back right away after reading all the chapter. Is that normal?

Thank's for helping,

1.
a. Export the slideshow to a compliant video by selecting the slideshow and clicking on the icon to the left of the timeline.
b. Delete the slideshow from the timeline.
c. Import the exported video to replace the slideshow.
d. Select the video and slideshow video (CTRL + mouse click) at the same time.
e. Click on the Join/Separate icon

You now have one item in the timeline containing video and slideshow.

2. You can only effect the menu return behaviour at the end of the clip (item on the timeline) not the end of each chapter. You can either return to the main menu or continue to play the next item on the timeline. Your best option would probably be the first option as you have it.
