automatically fitting a bunch of stuff to a single-layer DVD

i'm helping a friend transfer a bunch of VHS tapes (mostly documentary/religious stuff) to DVD. quality isn't super important, and in some cases (religious) she has been duplicating and mailing out VHS, and wants to put as much stuff as possible on a single DVD to reduce duplication time and mailing costs.

anyone know of a good (& free?) tool with which i can say:

take these 6 .mpg files. fold, spindle, and mutilate till they'll fit together on one 4.7G DVD. i'm going to bed.

Try VideoStudio 9... you can edit the mpeg files and burn it to DVDs. download the free trial
