Hauppauge PVR-150 / MF 3.0 SE

Post by Scott Drysdale »

i recently purchased a PVR-150, which comes with DVD MovieFactory 3.0SE.

i recorded some video from a VHS tape using the WinTV2000 app from hauppauge, then imported it into DVD MF3.0SE using "create DVD-video". when it got to where it would actually burn a DVD, the program froze - task manager said not responding, waited a few minutes, blew it away.

i later succesfully burned the same captured video to DVD using nero express (which i believe came with the DVD drive).

DVD drive is a sony UW-18A.

do i need to install the updates http://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Updates/DVDMov ... vr_pci.exe and http://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Updates/DVDMov ... atch_e.exe, or should they already be applied on the hauppauge CD (those updates are dated 2004, and the PVR-150 is a new product purchased a couple days ago)?

i tried to use the TBYB version of MF4.0, but 4.0 wants to open a 1024x768 window and the machine in use has a funky old VGA/TV monitor that only does 800x600.

Did you edit the video? The Hauppauge captures in MPEG format only, and MPEGs are not meant to be edited. You can end-up with what I call sneaky file-corruption. The edited MPEG will play-back fine, but may cause Ulead programs to crash, or result in DVDs with A/V sync problems. I believe the little (nano?) MPEG editor supplied with the Hauppauge card can make "clean" cut & splice edits. (It can only cut & splice, no crossfade-transitions or any other "real" video editing. :( )

If Nero works for you, stick with it! It may be more tolerant of file corruption than Ulead. If you're using Nero for editing, it may be able to edit MPEGs without corrupting them. :?

I have a Hauppauge card, and I've never had problems with unedited MPEGs. I've been using a special-purpose MPEG editor called Womble MPEG Video Wizard ($100). I have no problems using Womble as an editor and Movie Factory or DVD Workshop for DVD authroing & burning.

on my first attempt to burn, i did the whole enchilada in MF3.0SE.
the .mpg file is of one VHS tape that contained two parts, so i did this:

1) import clip (raw mpg), use "trim" feature to find start of 1st part (FF past blank stuff), find end of 1st part (after credits).
2) import clip (same raw mpg as 1st clip), use "trim" feature to find start of 2nd part, find end of 2nd part.
3) hit next button, picked a top menu. edited titles for part 1 & 2, wound though the clips to find appropriate thumbnails.
4) did nothing on the next screen (motion menu?)
5) continue though screens to the burn screen. told it to burn, and it hung.

tried the same basic stuff, but without any trimming (ie, imported the clip only once) so it'd be the same image as the raw recording. again, death when reached the "burn it" phase.

did the last part (burn raw .mpg) with nero, no problem. will try doing fancy stuff in nero tomorrow.

but this isn't supposed to be the nero support forum! is MF3.0SE that bad?

check if you have Nero InCD... if you do, uninstall it then try burning the DMF project again
