Im trying to make a DVD out of some digital photographs. Does anyone know if the Videostudio 8 or 9 is the proper software to accomplish this ?

Hi,

Unless you are also wanting to edit video, like home videos from a camcorder, then a better choice for you would be Ulead CD & DVD Picture Show.

While you can create slideshows with either Video Studio 8 or 9, they are tailored more for creating DVD's out of home video. CD & DVD Picture Show is tailored for creating slideshows to be put on CD's and DVD's out of pictures.

Hope that helps..

And a nice combination of both is another Ulead product: Disc Creator/Movie Factory 4.0 (or 3). It is excellent for creating slideshows of still images (far better than VS 7, 8 or 9 IMHO), and also has some good, but relatively basic (compared to VS 9) editing capacity if you want to edit some video clips. But if the clips are ready, then MF4 is excellent as a production tool for producing a DVD, whether it be video only or mixed video and photos. I use it all the time for producing my discs. I edit my video clips in VS9 and produce the final DVD-compatible mpeg-2s in that, then go to MF4, add the clips and then also set up my slideshows in it, and burn both to disc. The menus are somewhat more sophisticated than VS 9. (VS9 is primarily a video editing program. MF4 is its production end corollary. VS9 is better than MF4 at editing, but MF4 is better at the production end AND in setting up and producing slideshows.)

If you are intending to buy Video Studio go for Version 9.

I would certainly endorse Trevor on that. VS9 handles still photos quite well. VS8, on the other hand, had loads of problems getting a slideshow to perform correctly... and indeed was one of the reasons I turned to Mf3 and now 4 in the first place!
