I just installed MSPRO8 and I imported some large video files into the Production Library.
When I restarted the program it took FOREVER to load. Was I supposed to import the video files, scan, and split by scene in the media bin instead?
I've tried to find information and can't find anything about the differences between Production Library and the Media Bin. I'd mostly like to know if I transfer the files over to Media Bin will that help the program open more quickly? Do the Media Bin files stay permanently? I'd love to keep my library of clips available for future projects.
I haven't installed or uninstalled anything since I've installed MS8 and the first times I opened the program it loaded fast. Then I added all these video files and scan and split by scened them into libraries, the library size is now 300MB and it takes 2 hours to open MSPRO8.
I have 1 gig memory 2600 AMD Althon Processor and I have UVS9 installed on my computer already.
I'd appreciate any and all help.

I use the Production Library for my "canned" stuff; overlays of various types, lower thirds etc. I use the Media Library for only those sources being used in active projects.
Have you moved your temp and preview file locations to the video drive? If they're still on the C: drive it can slow things down. So can having large sources and a complex project but not enough RAM, which will cause a huge swapfile write.
Might also want to see how many UNDO buffers and automatic saves you have set up in Preferences as this will reduce the amout of RAM required and therefore swapfile usage. I use 5-6 of each.

I haven't started any projects yet. Right now all I have are my source video files, sorted into 45 libraries, in the Production Library tab. The source files are 45 minutes long and I split each of them into scenes. My .gal file is 300MB
My source video files are on separate drives from my c: drive.
What I need to know is if I move all those libraries over to the Project tab Media Bin will that load faster? or will the libraries disappear once I delete the project file?
I can understand why the library might load slowly when it has that many images to process and turn into thumbnails. It's just with UVS it doesn't matter how many libraries you have when you open the program. It opens at the same speed.

I don't think that's the problem. It's loading up the program that takes 2 hours with all the information in the Production Library. Once it's open everything works fine. My undo buffers I thought only affective projects you're currently working on? And do those undo buffers start as soon as you load MS? It gets frozen at the APS filters part of the loading process....Terry Stetler wrote:

but that doesn't explain why it loads with zero problems before I add anything to my production library. It's only after I add video files to my production library that it starts to take more than 1 minute to open the program. The more I add the longer it takes.Terry Stetler wrote:Critical piece of info. IF it's freezing at the part where it loads the APS (presuming: Adobe PhotoShop) filters then one may be incompatable or corrupted (bad sector on the HDD etc.).
