I was expecting DVD burn times to be in the 15-40 minute range. I just got a Pioneer 100 burner and it came with the Ulead software. For my first burn I used the drag+drop. It's been "working" for more than two hours, shows 15% completion and is taking 80% of the CPU. Can this be right or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
Bob
How long should it take?

Are you just burning a data dvd, or a straight copy of the material you have on the pc? As you mention drag and drop.
If so, the time taken should be governed by the amount of material and the burn speed of the disc, burner and burn speed selected.
If you are making a dvd to watch on a dvd player the video may need to be rendered, encoded, authored to the dvd files and then burned, this has much more variables including the pc spec and settings used for the encode.

Sorry, I should have specified that I am burning a movie, two hours long.
The burner is a new Pioneer that the PC Mag reviews rave about and say that it takes about 15minutes to burn a 2-hr movie.
Is the total time a function of processor speed, CPU speed, size of swap-file?
Thanks,
Bob

It should not take that long for SD (Standard Definition) video. However we don't know what format, and how you are going about this, the program being used, etc.,

Then once we know what program (VS, MSP, DMF) I will move this to the appropriate forum.

If you are burning an Xvid or DivX movie to DVD, depending on your PC spec's, it could take that long and maybe never finish if you can believe some people posting here. I have never done this and, hence, cannot quote from my own experiences.
In order to make any statements, we need to know the source material properties, the project settings and the system details this is done on. Follow the advice given in an earlier post to provide us with this data.
