When I try and trim certain fight scenes, it gives me the error message in the subject line.

Format: AVI, 374 mb, dl'ed it a long time ago.

Any thoughts?

It probably has something to do with the codec used "a long time ago." I'd recommend that you try to render the file as is as an AVI file, then go back and edit the new file.
