Drop Frame Counter
Was able to "Enable Drop Frame Counter " per Recommended Work Flow procedures, but these old eyes can't seem to locate anywhere to view the results of the "Dropped Frame Counter" after Capturing a segment.
Thanks for any help.

Yes your missing an icon Bob - it should be under the "Scene Number" icon - have a look on my website (WWW button below) and on the page entitled "Screen Views 2" I have changed the top picture to show my capture screen info panel and you should be able to see the drop frame counter - showing zero.
Is it possible that you have not modified the correct UVS.ini file - there are at least 3 of them on your PC (more if you have previous versions on your PC) you must modify the one in the "All Users" folder

Dropped frame counter
Brian,
Pretty sure you are correct that i modified the wrong UVS file, but I'm unable to locate any UVS files in the ALL USERS/APPLICATIN DATA ????
The only one i could find and thats the one i modified was in : ULEAD.DAT/UVS CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
I did a Search for UVS.INI and it comes back with NO files found????
Any Ideas??? can I reinstall Video Studio? Right over the existing one? Its the only copy and version I have on this computer ??????
Thanks,
Bob S

You should have one in Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Video Studio 8 - do you have "Show Hidden Files" selected under Control Panel\Folder Options\View - check that and search again
Just also checking - are we talking Ulead videoStudio Version 8 and are you using Windows XP
Don't know about just installing UVS over a previous copy - perhaps someone else would like to pick up that point.

Bob,
Brian Cee has it correct. I installed VS8 over VS7, and it is exactly as he described.
The important thing may be that the folder you are looking for is a hidden one. Go to Control Panel/Folder Options, and select Show Hidden Files. Then the computer will actually show you the folder and file!
uvs - configuration settings - is a 4 kb text file on my computer; towards the end of the file you will find the relevant portion, which needs to be changed a sfollows:
[INFORMATION]
ShowDropFrame=1
ShowAvailableSpace=1

Ok - there is a dropped frame counter for video's being captured. How about videos that have been captured ( past tense) ad I want to go and see if he captured video lost any frames - am I talking nonsense ?
Also even with the knowledge that a person has lost frames - what can you do about it - I mean how can you locate the spot where they have been lost such that you might corretc the sound file to accomodate the lost video ?
any ideas ?
Many thanks Vince

That's like asking how to tell that someone skipped a few numbers while counting to 100 -- unless you were there at the time, you can't tell.
There are two primary causes for dropped frames.
One is performance-related, where the CPU or hard drive can't keep up with the onslaught of data.
The other (and limited exclusively to analog devices) is a weak or non-conformant video signal somewhere in the chain -- a bad VHS tape, a composite cable that picks up interference etc.

Well with VS7 and VS8 you had to go the INI route to get the drop frame counter, it was I who posted the INI change initially. With VS9 and VS10, you simply open the program and go to FILE then PREFERENCES and click on the CAPTURE TAB. Now tick the box SHOW DROP FRAME COUNTER and there you have it.
