Repeated frames causing strobing effect on ouput file play

Post by TonyR »

I've just started using Ulead DVDMovieFactory Suite 3.5 SE that was bundled with my ASUS 1608 DVD writer. It captures fine (from PAL VHS tape) but anytime I try to output to any format file I get every 4th frame repeated for frame 5 as if it's trying to make an NTSC clip from a PAL one - but Im definately outputting to PAL. This causes a strobe light effect on playback.

I'm capturing at 25FPS HQ and outputting the same to DVD, SVCD & VCD.

Anyone got any ideas what's wrong? I know the captured files are fine because I've stepped through them frame by frame. It's only when I output them that I get this effect. And it's driving me around the friggin bend!

Thanks in advance. :D

Why would I need counselling (which is I presume what you mean) when it's them who seeks to hide the truth? I'm just telling it like it is. They removed my second post that said it was a problem with the program, which it is. There are no updates to fix it.

It's really quite pathetic - instead of actually fixing the problems, they just pretend they aren't there. So fark 'em! :)

Your post(s) were only removed because of the insinuated foul language.
NOT because you are unhappy and have a complaint.

You say that MF was bundled with the dvd writer.
You are capturing analog video and audio into the computer.
What capturing device is being used to capture the footage?
Is the ASUS a capturing device? Sounds like a dvd burner.

The capture device is the Leadtek FX5700 MyVIVO graphics card and the input to it is PAL VHS. The captured file is fine. It's the output after editing that is the problem.

Hi,

What happens if you don't edit the file at all and leave it as the original capture?
Are you capturing using MovieFactory (sounds like you are).
What are the capture properites of the video?
After capturing and the video is on the timeline right-click on it and select properties. (Take a close look at what is the leading field,, field A or field B).
The "Project Properties" should be equal to the source videos properties for editing.
Usually editing an mpeg file can result in audio sync problems. Not frame_rate problems.

Do you think you could have a fielding problem instead.
If you let MF detect the fielding it's usually backwards and detects the wrong field as the leading field.
Analog capture should be Field B (Ulead describes and labels that as Upper_Field_First).
With Ulead Analog capture is Upper_Field_First (Field B)
DV/camcorder capture is Lower_Field_First (Field A).
So capturing should be "Interlaced" (for TV) and Analog (Upper_Field_First).
