Strange Frame-repainting issue, just me?

Post by spurrymoses »

Hi Guys,

I'm using MSP8 and although the 'skin' thing they use looks nice enough, there is definitely a painting/refresh issue - I'm just wondering whether perhaps it's just my machine or everyone gets it?

Around all the window-frames is a bunch of colours from some other window or video that doesn't get repainted properly.

This happens in all my windows (in MSP8).

;-)
I should mention I'm using Windows 2000.

Your answer got me thinking, and I think I can safely say this is a bug/issue that they may want to look at.

If I change my Window's settings [Properties|Appearance|Active Window] Border to '6'. This is what happens (see screenshot below compared to previous one)
Imagine what will happen if I set this to say '15'... ;-)

That bluey colour you can see is my desktop background colour (It's set to 'Prairie Wind').
This, I think, is the danger in using these sort of non-windowsy skin-things.

I set my Window border's to between 4 and 6 for my sanity, so I can more easily grab borders using the mouse and so they stand out more.

I would hardly class it as a bug if you choose to use a non-standard border size. I'm sure that Ulead have much more important fish to fry! :)

Oh well, you can fry more important fish, but it's a bug. It's not 'non-standard' it's non-default. That's a very important difference!

Software that takes away your freedom to use your own Windows settings really bugs me. This is small enough but it's a very bad habit.

I have MSP8 running on 8 systems using at least 14 Win2K/XP bootups (multiboot systems) using Matrox and ATI display boards and don't see this.

It may be a bug, but more likely in your display drivers or a mugged up DirectX setting. That or the display card is overheating due to a slow or burned out fan or clogged cooling fins.

Hi Terry,

Have you set the Windows border width to 4 or above on any of those machines to test it (as described in this thread)?

On WindowsXP, right-click the desktop, choose Properties, Appearance tab, Advanced button and select the border or choose 'Active Window Border' from the dropdown.

If you set this to 4 or more (as I always do when I setup a windows machine) you will notice this strange repainting problem in all windows in MSP8.

I've just tried it on my WindowsXP machine at work and it does exactly the same thing.

Ahhh....now I see that you're modding the border. Didn't register on my first reading :)

Yes, I see it now. Looks like the border is "capturing" the background details where ever it opens after being un-docked.

Consider it reported.
