rendered video background parts missing

i am trying to produce high quality avi files but when i render my production a third of the right hand side of the backround is missing but everything else in the frame shows up. can anyone help.

also when i use the global effects from the easy pallette once they are rendered they appear as a solid block of color not smooth and faded at the edges.

any help would be greatly appreciated
