Cannot capture from Canon MV500

Post by Atle »

I have just installed VideoStudio7 and the program tells me that either no video capture driver is installed in this system, or no device connected.

The device, a Canon MV500, is connected for sure. Do I need an additional driver from Canon?

Depends on how you are connecting it, which you have neglected to mention.
For firewire, which is the way you need to be connecting, windows supplies the driver.
For USB and the canon own software, canon would supply the driver.

If you cannot get firewire to work, check this out,

paying particualr attention to the testing of components, as it may be connected, but who knows if the parts are all working properly or not?

Thanks for the speedy reply.

The camera is connected with Firewire. I have checked the Firewire connection and this seems to be ok. I have double checked all connections and the camera is set to playback position. The camera is quite old and I cannot remember if there came any software along with it. XP does not give me any confirmation that the camera is connected.

Still no capture...

Check Ulead's Camcorder Compatibility List:

Hi,
You can't use your camcorder with any program if windows doesn't recognize it.

Plug the camcorder in (Firewire).
Turn it on. Wait 30 seconds.
Goto "Start -> Settings -> Control Panel"
In the Control Panel click on "Scanners and Cameras".
You should see the Canon device there.

If not you may have to activate the firewire port using the setup menu
on the camcorder.

Hope this helps a liitle,

Atle,
Have you tested with other equipment and proved that it is all working? It's not good saying it all looks ok, or that device manager lists the firewire card as working as this doesn't mean it is unfortunately.

You need to see another cam working in a pc, then use this cam in your pc, and your cam in that pc, swapping cables as well, this will tell you whether all the equipment is working or not.

Double-check to make sure that the camcorder is in Playback / VCR mode, not Record mode.
