Cannot Export MPG's

I am able to use Video Studio 7 to capture, edit and create projects. I can even export as WMV. But when I export as MPG (DV, DVD, web), the program crashes and hangs right after I click on the Export>>Save function. ANy ideas how to fix this? Am I missing some codecs? What is the best way to trouble shoot this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
