There is a very good chance that it has something to do with the actual video content itself i.e. some small portion of what you are trying to render is taking VS 9 for a loop into the never never of lost application software
Have a look at this troubleshooting technique, it is part of the "Downunder perspective" from the Recommended Procedures post:

Using this technique you should be able to narrow the problem down to a specific transition or whatever and then "work around" it by changing your video.
BTW, I wouldn't recommend using the "Burn to disc" option - just leave the "Create Disc Image" checked - you can burn to disc after the render is completed successfully
