Flooded with DVP and VEPROJ files

Post by spurrymoses »

Just a question regarding Project Files (.dvp).
I searched for this and couldn't find anyone else with problems.

I have a project called "Oscar0to1.dvp".

Just now, I had a look at the file system where this project Oscar0to1.dvp is and I noticed a subdirectory called "Oscar0to1" and 38 other project files named Oscar0to1001, Oscar0to1002,Oscar0to1003, Oscar0to1004 etc
Also present are files named Oscar_0to1001.veproj, Oscar_0to1005.veproj Oscar_0to1014.veproj etc.

Seems a lot of space for one project considering the .veproj files are nearly 1MB each... ? And the video isn't even 2 minutes yet!

Is this normal? The program has crashed repeatedly over the course of about 2 days (probably about 10 times or so) is this some backup thing wrong when it crashes?

Can I delete some of these?

Press F6, General tab and set the number of backups to keep to, say, 10, instead of the default 99. The system generates rotating backups every 10 minutes, by default, so that you can go backwards by 10 minute increments.

Personally, I find 99 is excessive and I work usually with 9.

No idea why it crashes for you.

Thanks. I can see the use of these now. I'm editing something at the moment that crashes MSP8 every 10 minutes or so. I have to edit, hope to god it doesn't crash and get as much done as possible - saving every minute.

Although sometimes, it still doesn't help. I'll mention this for the benefit of others and for mentioning a buggette.

Last time I went to press 'Save' it crashed at that exact moment. My project file disappeared - poof. Of course there were backups but the main was gone. Now I opened the backup, and tried to 'Save As...' the original project file name. But MSP8 doesn't let you.
When you specify the project name 'Oscar_0to1' - because MSP8 automatically creates a directory of the same name, it opens this directory for you instead of naming and saving the file.

The solution is to type the file extension as well ".dvp" even though this usually not necessary.

Don't worry about solving the crashes - I know there's nothing wrong with my machine.
