Using Videstudio for my projects

Post by randazzo »

Right now I'm using VS9 to work on my raw footage. I find VS9 for the first cutting and raw editing much more convenient than MSP8. After having made the first decisions about the material I'm going to use I will finish it in MSP8.

Any of you doing this the same way or am I mishing some handy options in MSP8?

What problems are you having with MSP8 that cause you to revert to VS9?

I admit that my first couple of projects I did the same as you as I was running against deadlines. When I had the first opportunity to take my time I forced myself to do everything in MSP8 and have not used VS9 again since.

The first problem I had when moving to MSP8 was the small preview window, However I soon discovered that you can resize everything and save the layout and include a "hot key" combination CTRl+1 CTRL+2 etc to quickly get from one layout to another.

I now have a small collection of layouts, one for previewing with a large playback screen, another layout for viewing several video tracks at a time, another layout for the effects manager etc, and I quickly switch views with my hot keys.

For me it's in the trimming and cutting from a large amount of clips.

One of the best things that is in MSP8 is the multi-trim function which is virtually (if not) identical to that in VS9.
Another way....
As soon as you gt the hang of it you can also zoom into single frame view and use the scissors to cut a clip.

Say you had recorded a TV program and wanted to remove an advert.
use a zoom level of say 1 minute and find the beggining area. Zoom in a bit and navigate to where you want to make a cut, repeat this process until you get to single frame view then use the scissors and cut.

Now zoom back out to 1 minute level, find the end of the adverts and repeat the process. Now use the select tool and click the "adverts" and delete.

Soon as you get the hang of it it's easy.
