after reformatting hard drive and loading xp pro sp2, i installed pictureshow 3. initial install failed, then successfully did a repair install.
when I attempt to open app I get the following "runtime error": "application has requested runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."
have of course done several reboots and several install attempts.
thanks in advance for your help.

re: runtime error Pictureshow 3
A repair alone doesn't usually solve the problem. You need to reinstall PictureShow from scratch.
When you install a software, the installer extracts temporary files needed for the installation on a temp folder. These folders are usually:
C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp
If the temp folder holds old installer files that may be corrupted or are duplicates with the same filename but are used for a different software, it could cause a problem for your new installation of the software. Before you reinstall the software, make sure to clean the Temp folders.
The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder so you have to enable Windows Explorer to see hidden files and folders. Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View and check show hidden files and folders. You can now open the Temp folder from the Documents and Settings folder and delete the files there before you make a new install.

Therefore, all the contents of these folders are no longer needed and should be cleaned regularly.
